This is not ice hockey.

As you may know, my son, Richard, has played roller hockey for the past 4-5 years. This session his team, the Gremlins, have not been very successful: they have not one a single game. There are four teams in his division. Two of the teams are very good and the other two have room for growth.

Yesterday's game was another hard fought game between the two teams on the low end of the standings. The previous game between these teams was also quite a battle, and tempers got noticeably hot as the referees did a poor job of calling penalties. This time the game was also very competitive and the referees continued to ignore many penalty situations.

Near the end of the game, Richard got decked by a former teammate but no penalty was called. This league is supposed to not allow checking (hitting).

After the game, Richard did not feel right and reported that his chest was sore. His mom and I decided to be safe and took him to a walk-in clinic to have him checked out to make sure he had not suffered a serious injury that was not apparent. The doctor examined him, took a couple of xrays, and concluded that there was no sign of serious injury. Thank God!

Richard's team kept their streak intact and lost the game: 9-3. However, Richard scored another goal and now is tied for the most goals (5) for his team.
